Superintendent Adkins congratulates our elementary teams on their successes in the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition District Governor’s Cup.
Superintendent Adkins comments, “For District 85, we want to congratulate May Valley Elementary, Quick Recall and Overall District Champs, and Prestonsburg Elementary, Future Problem Solving Champs! For District 86, congratulations South Floyd Elementary, Overall Champs, John M Stumbo Elementary for Future Problem Solving Champs, and Betsy Layne Elementary, Quick Recall Champs!”
Adkins explains why Floyd County Schools are divided into two districts, “KAAC tries to keep district meets to four schools or less and as we have 7 competing at the elementary level, we get split into two districts. The students scoring in the top 5 positions of each written assessment area and the 1st and 2nd place Quick Recall and FPS teams advance to the regional level. Floyd County Schools is part of Region 27 for KAAC and competes against schools in Knott County. The regional competitions are scheduled for this Saturday with FPS competition tonight, but those could still be changed due to recent flooding in our area. No matter when they compete, we want our students to know we wish them the best of luck and are eager to see how they excel in the next and final level of competition for elementary.”
Adkins concludes, “Please join us in congratulating these students for their accomplishments in district competition and wishing them the best of luck in regionals.”
