Superintendent Danny Adkins announces the Floyd County Schools Reopening Plan.

When asked about the plan, Adkins comments, “Basically, we have two options and our parents will choose which option they take. We have a brief summary page that has the highlights of the In-Person model and the On-Line Learning model and there’s a link on the page for parents to click and let us know which option they are choosing. In order to finalize our plans, we need all our parents to complete this online form before August 7th.” Adkins continues, “We also have a website that anyone can visit to see our detailed plan. This includes everything from how riding the bus will be to how we will take attendance to the names of the programs we will be using with online instruction. We want our students, staff and families to know that our decisions have been based on safety, and on state and federal guidelines. We are working diligently to create the best possible learning opportunities for our kids.”

Adkins continues, “The biggest difference, of course, is In-Person versus On-Line Learning. We want everyone to know that we will try to have our In-Person Learning as much like a regular classroom as we can. We also want everyone to know that our On-Line Learning will be very different from our NTI days this past spring. Students will be learning new material, have assignments and assessments and receive grades just like the students in the In-Person Learning. Some kids will have a teacher in the room with them at a school and some kids will have a teacher on a screen via technology.” Adkins assures that there will be an adjustment period but says that, “We are all about providing amazing opportunities for kids and that’s what we are going to keep doing. To have those opportunities, we have to make sure our students are moving forward in their education.”

Adkins comments, “We have been planning, reading guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, reading recommendations and guidelines from the Commissioner of Education and the governor’s office. We have tried to dot all our “i’s” and cross all our “t’s”. That being said, we also know that what we have planned may change based on guidance from Frankfort so we hope you will be patient with this process and as flexible as you can if or when things change.”

Adkins concludes, “We will post the summary page and all the links on our website and all our social media sites. We want parents to call the school your child may attend if you have questions. Lastly, we want our parents to know that we are going to teach our kids; it’s just that some will be with us physically and some won’t.”
