Superintendent Danny Adkins announces a new administrator at Betsy Layne Elementary.

Adkins comments, “We’re very happy to announce that the administrative team at BLE is complete with Andrea Humphries becoming the new assistant principal. Her experience with so many different areas of education will make her a great asset to Betsy Layne and to Mr. Parsons and Ms. Morrison.”

Andrea Humphries has 21 years of experience as an educator. She spent the majority of those years in a high school English classroom where she taught all levels of English. She graduated with her teaching certificate from the University of Pikeville (Pikeville College). Andrea completed her graduate work with Morehead State University and Union College. Andrea has coached cheer, been the Student Senate advisor, worked with the Governor’s Scholars and ran the social media page for the school. She has worked in administration the last couple of years, coordinating assessment, attendance/truancy meetings, the school plan, served on the instruction team and more.

Humphries comments, “I’m so thankful for the opportunity to work with the students and families of the Betsy Layne community. I count myself blessed to be a part of this school.” When asked who has been a role model in her life, Humphries said, “Tommy Thompson, a retired teacher. Mr. Thompson left his students better than he found them, and he modeled day after day how contagious a positive attitude can be. Although he faced many trials and hardships, Mr. Thompson never let his circumstances change his character and integrity.”

Andrea and her husband Jason live in Pikeville with their 12-year-old sons, Cooper, Corbin and Cole.

Adkins continues, “We welcome Andrea to Floyd County Schools and we know that she, Mr. Parsons and Ms. Morrison are going to be a powerhouse administration.” He continued, “On a side note, we are pretty sure that Betsy Layne Elementary may have the only assistant principal duo (Humphries and Morrison) in the state who both have triplet sons. And since Principal Jonathan Parsons also has three children, they have deemed their hashtag to be #BLEandthepowerof3.”
