Superintendent Danny Adkins wants to remind everyone about the Lunch, Literacy & Learning Summer Program and the mobile route that will run from June 10th to July 26th, 2019.

Adkins comments, “We’re very happy to announce that we’re continuing the Lunch, Literacy and Learning program and our mobile summer feeding route. These programs allow all children ages 1 to 18 to have a free daily meal for most of June and July at no cost. We have three schools who will have breakfast and lunch available to any child ages 1 to 18 who comes to those schools. We have 19 places that our mobile route will bring lunch daily.” Adkins continues, “At the Warco Housing Development and Highlands Heights Housing, there’s also an opportunity for children ages 3 to 13 to participate in fun activities this summer and have lunch.”

Graciously thanking community partners and school district employees, Adkins says, “Our Director of Food Services, Dale Pack, has worked diligently to add as many locations as possible to our mobile route so that more children will have meals available to them easily. Our Director of Early Childhood Programs, Anna Shepherd, has coordinated and planned for fun summer activities. Our wonderful community partners, the Floyd County Library, the Floyd County Extension Office and our partnership with KET have science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities, story activities and block parties. Offering opportunities to children is our focus and we want kids to continue having opportunities in the summer as well as the school year.”

Adkins concludes, “We hope you take a look at our flyer and the posters you’ll see hanging at our schools and other locations and take advantage of this opportunity. It doesn’t matter if your child is 2 and hasn’t been a student, he or she can still eat. It doesn’t matter if your niece is visiting from another state, she can still come eat. It is for all children ages 1 to 18. All.”
