Superintendent Danny Adkins congratulates Mary Slone of Floyd Central High School on being a 2021 Valvoline™ Teacher Achievement Award winner and qualifying to compete for the 2021 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award.

Slone comments, “This honor would not have been possible if not for the students and staff that always make me better than what I am.  They shore up the areas that I am weak in and give me an opportunity to soar in the areas that are my strengths. I would be remiss to leave out the impact that Narrative 4 has had on my instruction and me.  This organization has helped me create opportunities for my students so that they can be people who truly lead with empathy. I’m honored to be chosen as a semifinalist.”

This fall, the 24 semi finalists will be honored when the Kentucky Elementary, Middle and High School Teachers of the Year are announced. The Kentucky Teacher of the Year is one of these three.

Superintendent Adkins comments, “First, I want to congratulate Mary. Second, I want to say that it’s not surprising that during a year when there were a record number of teacher nominations that Mary Slone would rise to the top. Mary has been breaking the mold for quite some time in Floyd County and has definitely made a wonderful impression on me. From instructing in the classroom to taking a group of students to the Bronx, Mary strives to make learning more real by bringing the world into her room.” Adkins concludes, “It’s wonderful to see one of our amazing teachers recognized for what they do best.”
