Superintendent Danny Adkins talks about the Early Childhood Program in Floyd County Schools.

Adkins comments, “We have one of the best Early Childhood programs in Kentucky. Director Anna Shepherd and her dedicated team continue to surpass goals and offer more opportunities for our young students.”

Adkins discusses the regional review of Head Start classrooms in regards to personnel saying, “Being exceptional in this regional review requires teamwork. The teams are made up of the classroom teacher, the instructional assistant, the Family Advocate, the Education Consultant and the Special Education Consultant.” Adkins continues, “Kim Grubb is our Education Consultant and she’s a member of every single team. Teresa Newsome and Bethany Bingham are our Special Education Consultants and they’re members of any team that needs her.”

Talking about the review, Adkins says, “Head Start strives to meet kids’ needs and their families’ needs. They do this so that the children will be ready for and successful in school. In order to make sure that’s happening, the Big Sandy Area Community Action Program (BSACAP) Grantee Head Start Office conducts an annual record review of all 63 Head Start classrooms in the region where they pull and review folders randomly.  They can look at folders for the children’s health and educational needs as well as the families’ needs. You could almost compare it to adoption in that it’s like our teams almost adopt the students and their families and become a support and liaison for them.”

Adkins closes saying, “We’re really proud and we hope everyone joins us in congratulating these amazing women and recognizing the hard work and dedication they have for children. We appreciate the job they do every day.”
