Superintendent Danny Adkins announces the results of the 2019 Floyd County Schools District Spelling Bee. Brody Jones, 7th grade student from James D. Adams Middle School, is the district winner and Taylor Stumbo, 6th grade student from South Floyd Elementary, is the district runner up.


Students who compete in the district spelling bee are school champions from grades 4 – 8.

The school winners are as follows:


Jada Reynolds, 7th grade, from Allen Elementary

Elijah Kidd, 8th grade, from Betsy Layne Elementary

Kaylee Boyd, 8th grade, from Duff-Allen Central Elementary

Brody Jones, 7th grade, from James D. Adams Middle

Allyson Newsome, 6th grade, from John M Stumbo Elementary

Braxton Howard, 5th grade, from May Valley Elementary

Amelia Gilbert, 4th grade, from Prestonsburg Elementary

Taylor Stumbo, 6th grade, from South Floyd Elementary.


Students competed in the district spelling bee on Friday, February 8 in the auditorium at Floyd Central High School.


Brody is the son of Casey and Jenny Jones of Prestonsburg. He will advance to compete in the Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 16, at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in Louisville.
