Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb would like to congratulate members of the Prestonsburg Honor Choir and the JMS Choir on their performances in the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) District 9 Vocal Solo & Ensemble event on March 23rd at Belfry High School. The competition included students from Floyd County, Martin County, Pike County, Pikeville Independent and Hazard Independent.
Webb comments, “We’re happy to see our students competing in different types of competitions. Our KIDS are so talented in many different areas. PHS and JMS students did well in the competition and we’d especially like to congratulate Ally Davis from Prestonsburg High School as she qualified for state solo competition on May 20th at the University of Louisville.”
John M. Stumbo Elementary Choir and Prestonsburg High School Honor Choir received Proficient ratings. Katherine Bailey, PHS junior, and Debra Wike, PHS senior, earned proficient solo ratings. Ally Davis and Kalib Jackson, both seniors at PHS, earned distinguished solo ratings with Davis qualifying for state competition. More than 60 soloists and small groups performed in addition to the large ensemble.
