Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb is excited to announce that several students have excelled at the State Governor’s Cup competition yesterday in Louisville.
Dr. Webb comments. “The board team and I want to congratulate Preston Crase from South Floyd, 4th place in General Knowledge at the State Governor’s Cup competition. This is Preston’s third consecutive year advancing to state and last year he placed 10th in General Knowledge. Preston also placed in the top twenty in the state for social studies.”
Webb continued, “We also want to congratulate Allen Central Middle School’s Quick Recall Team. The team won their pool and went on to defeat James Madison Middle from Hopkins County and Bondurant Middle from Franklin County before suffering a loss to St. James School of Hardin County. This team has been to state competition for three consecutive years and has become the first middle school quick recall team to reach this level in Floyd County Schools as they advanced to the quarterfinals and tied for 5th in Kentucky!”
The Allen Central Middle School Academic Team, coached by Dr. Brent Hutchinson and Ashley Prater, placed 12th overall in the state.
According to Brenda Darnell, Program Director for the Kentucky Academic Association Conference, it is estimated that about 20,000 students across Kentucky compete in Governor’s Cup.
Dr. Webb concluded, “We’d like to thank our coaches, parents and community for supporting these KIDS. We’re very proud of our students and the ACMS team.”
